The Texas State Guard recently celebrated the graduation of its newest class of service members from Basic Orientation Training at Camp Swift, marking a significant milestone in their journey towards becoming disciplined and skilled soldiers. This training is mandatory for new enlistees who have not previously served in the U.S. Military, ensuring they are well-versed in the fundamentals of military life. The Basic Orientation Training program is designed to introduce recruits to a broad spectrum of military aspects, including military law, regulations, and the everyday disciplines that shape a soldier. It also focuses on physical training, instilling a sense of commitment and resilience. This graduation is not just a ceremony but a testament to the hard work and dedication of these new service members. On hand during the ceremony was The Texas State Guard Senior Enlisted Advisor Command Sergeant Major Harlan Thompson who congratulated the soldiers on graduating and welcoming them to their new careers in The Texas State Guard.
The significance of Basic Orientation Training (Basic Training) extends far beyond its initial phase, playing a crucial role in shaping the careers of these new soldiers. This Initial Entry Training is a comprehensive program, essential for recruits unacquainted with the military environment. It equips them with core military skills and knowledge, such as understanding military customs and courtesies, map reading, land navigation, basic first aid, and proficiency in handling military equipment. More importantly, the training delves into the understanding of the chain of command, military law, and the core values of the armed forces. With a strong emphasis on leadership, integrity, and teamwork, this program is instrumental in forging soldiers who embody discipline and resilience. The curriculum is tailored to foster skills crucial for effective functioning within the military framework, ensuring each soldier is prepared for the challenges ahead in their careers with The State Guard. This foundational training is the bedrock upon which these soldiers will build their future military endeavors, cementing their role as disciplined and capable members of the Texas State Guard.
