California State Guard now uses drones to help with SAR

The California State Guard recently tested its new drone to enhance their Search & Rescue capabilities.

California State Guard Maj. Gen. Jay Coggan (right), commanding general of the CSG, operates a drone alongside a service member with Operations Group at Camp San Luis Obispo. The drone can capture aerial footage and send it back in real time to Joint Forces Headquarters or the mobile Tactical Operations Center. This enhances the search and rescue capabilities of the CSG by giving service members the ability to search wide swaths of back country looking for missing persons. The drone also has thermal-imaging capabilities in addition to aerial mapping and assessment, with mission-ready live broadcast both to field and JFHQ.
