In February, the Alaska State Defense Force worked side by side with the Colorado Army National Guard Green Berets in a large scale military exercise called Arctic Eagle/Patriot-22. The exercise focused on the forces capacity to operate in extreme cold weather environment. One other mission the Green Berets and State Defense Force worked side by side on was a Joint Aerial Survey Mission.
During Exercise Arctic Eagle/Patriot-22, 5/19 SFG(A) Green Berets and Alaska State Defense Force Scouts participated in Aerial survey missions. This Domestic Operations Capability ensures local security elements are capable to survey and provide services to any isolated community in the event of a natural or man made disaster. The ASDF acts as the “eyes & ears” of rural Alaska to synchronize the efforts of the Alaska National Guard to serve the and protect citizens of Alaska.
