Starbucks and Veterans Support Group Provide Critical Supplies to South Carolina State Guard for Hurricane Helene Recovery

As Hurricane Helene left devastation in its wake, the South Carolina State Guard (SCSG) swiftly mobilized to assist in recovery operations. On October 4, 2024, Starbucks District 3305 came together to support these efforts, generously donating approximately $15,000 worth of food and beverages to sustain the soldiers. The donation included breakfast sandwiches, coffee, tea, cups, and other essential items, all of which were delivered by Captain Joseph Goldsmith, SCSG Public Affairs, to soldiers on the front lines. This contribution has been critical in keeping the troops energized as they continue their recovery missions. The South Carolina State Guard expressed heartfelt thanks to Starbucks for this vital support.

In addition to Starbucks’ contribution, the Concerned Veterans for America Foundation played a crucial role in equipping the SCSG for their relief efforts. The foundation provided the Guard with four chainsaws, bar oil, fuel, and extra chains. These tools have been essential in clearing debris left by the hurricane, allowing the SCSG to continue their recovery work efficiently and safely. The soldiers are deeply appreciative of the foundation’s timely generosity.

The South Carolina State Guard has been on active duty for nearly two weeks, deploying 146 soldiers to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. These soldiers are engaged in a wide range of critical missions, including clearing debris, managing Points of Distribution (POD) operations, and supporting law enforcement efforts. Their specialized Provost Marshal unit has been working to secure critical infrastructure and assist with traffic control, ensuring the smooth delivery of relief supplies. Additionally, SCSG personnel have been using drones for damage assessments and providing chainsaw training to National Guard soldiers preparing to deploy to storm-impacted areas.

After CPL C. Goldsmith of Alpha Company, Third Battalion approached Jenn DePew, grassroots coordinator of the CVA, Frank Bullock, and CVA volunteer Paul DePew, they were quick to respond!
