The Texas State Guard (State Defense Force) worked together with the Texas Army National Guard and over a dozen agencies from across Texas and the United States to simulate a large scale Search & Rescue Exercise. The focus of the exercise was to examine and develop the readiness of helicopter Search & Rescue crews. Another aim of the exercise was to ensure that all these separate agencies can work in coordination with one another if a large scale natural disaster occurred.
Guardsmen of 2nd Brigade, Texas State Guard, along with members of the Texas Army National Guard, assisted 16 partner agencies from across Texas and the United States for the annual helicopter search and rescue exercise, College Station, Texas, June 15th, 2022. The Texas Military Department partnered with the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas A&M Task Force 1, the principal hosting agency, to conduct the readiness exercise to hone helicopter rescue skills and practice coordination and communication while navigating realistic scenarios with the same agencies they will work with during a natural disaster or other emergency. Well done! (Texas State Guard photos by Warrant Officer Gregory Illich and Warrant Officer Michael Faber)
