Puerto Rico State Guard Helps Rebuild Family Home After Hurricane Fiona

Troops from the 500th Engineering Battalion of The Puerto Rico State Guard (State Defense Force) have been assisting residents who have had homes damaged following Hurricane Fiona. The troops recently rebuilt a citizens home that had been damaged from a fire as well as the impact from Hurricane Fiona. The troops spent 3 days reconstructing the home, gutting the old and decayed support beams and walls, and replacing them with new materials. The troops also added new doors and shutters to the home. When they finished development the home was brand new and ready for the family to move back into.

The Puerto Rico State Guard does a great deal of community support missions, recently they remodeled the San Juan YMCA Community Center. Their Engineering Unit also renovated the Commonwealth’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Company 502 of the 500th Engineering Battalion of the Puerto Rico State Guard Command (GNPR) completed a support mission in the Municipality of Vega Alta, October 20-23. The mission consisted of the remodeling of a home that suffered damage after a fire last June and subsequently aggravated after the passage of Hurricane Fiona.
The State Command is composed of men and women who stay their service voluntarily and support the Puerto Rico National Guard in emergency events such as natural disasters, medical services, security services, eng services among others.
